The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen has been published by Literal Systems and narrated by Seleucia Sivad.
This timelessly endearing classic is about a poor little girl who sells matches for a living. But on a cold New Year's Eve, she is unable to sell a single match and, tired and hungry, takes refuge under the window of a house from which come the voices and smells of a New Year's celebration going on. The story juxtaposes the huge rift between the rich and the poor, and the author gives a kind release to the little match girl in the end, something the society does not.
This is one story that almost everyone has read as a child. So one expects a wonderful rendition of it on audio format by Seleucia Sivad. However, the narrator is extremely disappointing. Her elocution is not smooth and she is unable to grasp and convey the subtle moods of the story just right.
While the audio quality is good, and the running time a sweet 8 minutes, I would not give this story more than 3.5 stars. Listeners must hear a favourite story narrated badly at their own risk.
